IX Festival of Traditional Wrestling of Peoples of Russia

The IX Festival of traditional wrestling of peoples of Russia took place on December 6, 2014, at the Ivan Yarygin Palace of Wrestling. Its program included Russian za-vorotok wrestling, Tatar koresh wrestling, Buryatian buche-barildaan wrestling, Yakut khapsagai, and traditional wrestling of the peoples of the Caucasus.

The individual all-around competition this year was held in Buryatian buche-barildaan wrestling, and identified Aydin Mongush, a Tuvinian wrestler, to be the strongest one. 
Over 120 wrestlers took part in the competition. They were representing 21 teams of national and cultural associations and communities of Moscow: Bashkortostan, Buryatia, Dagestan, Trans-Baikal Territory, Kabardino-Balkaria, Kalmykia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Nizhny Novgorod, Tambov, Tatarstan, Tyva, Khakassia, Chuvashia, Yugra, Yakutia. Also, there were wrestlers from Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia and Tajikistan.

The co-chairmen of the organizing committee were the following persons: Bator Dugarov, Chairman of the Sport Committee at Council of Nationalities of the Government of Moscow, a member of the executive committee of the Traditional Games and Ethnosport Federation of Russia, and Aleksey Kylasov, President of the Traditional Games and Ethnosport Federation of Russia.

The festival was held with the support of the Department of Interregional Cooperation, National Policy and Relations with Religious Organizations of Moscow. Anna Abram, Deputy Head of the Department, made a welcome speech on its behalf. Evgeny Afanasenkov, First Deputy of the Prefecture of the South-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow, also made a welcome speech on behalf of his organization.

Welcoming remarks were made by representatives of organizations that supported the festival as well as its special guests, including: Anatoly Lekhatinov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Buryatia; Irinchey Matkhanov, deputy of the State Duma; Aleksandr Kim-Kimen, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia); Ochir Damdinov, First Deputy Head of the Delegation of the Government of Trans-Baikal region under the Government of the Russian Federation; Bulat Minnullin, Deputy Plenipotentiary of the hapsagay Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation on international and economic issues, President of the Khapsagai Wrestling Federation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia); Nikolai Rumyantsev, deputy of the Il-Tumen Republic of Sakha (Yakutia); Yuri Navrazhny, President of the NGO \»New Stream\», President of the Ethnosport Federation of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District — Yugra; Aleksey Klauzer, member of the executive committee of the Traditional Games and Ethnosport Federation of Russia.

The following entities took part in the organization: the Prefecture of South-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow, the publicly funded national institution \»Moscow House of Nationalities\», Association of Moscow communities, the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus, Center of Intellectual Property \»VIYUR Groups\», Buryat culture society \»Uryaal\», Khapsagai Wrestling Federation of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

At the initiative of the Cultural mission of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia and by invitation of the Traditional Games and Ethnosport Federation of Russia, the International Zurkhaneh Sports Federation presented the traditional zurkhaneh complex during the opening ceremony of the festival. It comprises gymnastics and koshti wrestling. Before the performance of the Iranians, Aleksey Kylasov, President of the Traditional Games and Ethnosport Federation of Russia, noted that cooperation with Iran is of special significance for the peoples of the Caucasus due to long-standing and close cultural ties with the Persian culture. Hossein Tabatabaei, Cultural Attache of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, thanked the organizers at the end of his speech and presented a commemorative gift to Aleksey Kylasov.

In between the competitions, the guests of the festival can enjoy performances by artists and perfomance groups.

The panel of judges of the festival is formed by the Academy of sport and applied arts of the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sport, Youth and Tourism (RSUPCSYT). Vyacheslav Damdintsurunov, its Vice President, Executive Director of the Academy of martial arts, Vice President of the Traditional Games and Ethnosport Federation of Russia, is the chief judge at the festival.
